VENICE, A PERFECT PLACE
Venice, Italy, city of lovers and dozens
of canals, is perfect for those who like to combine historical and natural
beauties. Check out our Venice tips and essential information for anyone
planning to visit one of the most romantic cities in the world!
SOME SIGHTS
Square San Marco (Piazza San
Marco)
Piazza San Marco is the
heart of Venice and a must-see place in the city. The large square in the
center of the city houses the Basilica San Marco. It is the pulsating center of
Venetian life, with several historical and different-styled buildings. It
also houses the Palazzo Ducale, the Correr Museum and the Campanile Tower.
Basilica di San Marco
Originally from the 10th century, the Basilica di San Marco that we know today was the third church built on the
same site. Of Romanesque-Byzantine style, it was built to house the body of St.
Mark, author of one of the Gospels. Its construction, very imposing in the form
of a Greek cross, has five domes and beautiful portals. Rich in marbles of
different colors and impressive mosaics, much of it in gold, the images of the
interior of the basilica reveal the portrayal of biblical moments.
Campanile of San Marco
The bell tower, right in front of the Basilica of San Marco, is 99 meters high. It once served as a navigational lighthouse, for vessels, and today its highest part is open to the public. The belfry offers an incredible panoramic view of the city, which is well worth knowing! The ascent can be done by elevator and costs 8€.
Rialto Bridge
Most famous of Venice's many
bridges, the Rialto Bridge spans
the Grand Canal and for centuries was the only way to cross it. The marble
bridge has a very beautiful look in the late afternoon and it is worth stopping
for a while at its highest point to observe the movement of the vessels. Near
the bridge, there is the Mercado di Rialto, which
for centuries has supplied the houses of the city's residents with fish, fruits
and vegetables.
Gondola ride in Venice
Between one ride and another during your wanderings around the city, you can take the opportunity to take a gondola ride. They're not exactly a bargain, but they're undoubtedly a symbol of the city's romanticism, even more so with the gondoliers singing their songs. The activity costs from € 80 for 30 minutes for a group of 6 people and the tour can be done even during the night, when the canals of Venice get quieter.
VENICE IS TREMENDOUSLY WONDERFUL. IT IS A DREAM FOR ANYONE, INCLUDING ME, THAT CAME TRUE IN JULY, 2023, TRAVELING AND GETTING TO KNOW OTHER PLACES TOO.
